WHO: Nearly 15 Million Deaths Associated with COVID-19 During Pandemic’s First 2 Years

WHO estimates that nearly 15 million excess deaths – or the difference between the number of expected deaths based on previous trends and the number of recorded deaths – occurred between the start of 2020 and the end of 2021. This number includes deaths associated with COVID-19 either directly due to the disease or indirectly due to the “pandemic’s impact on health systems and society,” according to WHO.
